Create a Killer Facebook Page Step 2: Create a Basic Page

Once you have done the research and planning, it is time to dive in and create your page. Creating a Facebook Fan page is pretty easy, as you can see from the three steps below.

  1. From your personal profile you can use the “create a page” link, or go directly to http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=904#!/pages/create.php.
  2. Fill in the basic information about your company for the Info Tab. Keep it short and sweet, but be sure to link to your website.
  3. Add any additional page admins. Read on for an explanation of page admins and how to add them.

What are page admins?

Page admins are people who have the ability to add to and edit a fan page. If you are working with a marketing agency or others within your company, you want to add them as admins to the page, otherwise they will have to access the page by logging into your personal Facebook account. By adding them as admins, they can login using their Facebook accounts, leaving your personal information private.

It’s also important to note, that while admins can be removed, the person who creates the page can never be removed and is always linked to the account.  For companies with employees, the Fan Page should be created using an owner or principle’s Facebook account (someone who will be with the company long term), over an employee who could leave or be fired at any time. Especially if the employee is fired, there are some serious security implications in them “owning” the page as the original creator. If that is the case, you will most likely have to ask them to delete the page and start from scratch. Ouch!

How do I add other Page Admins?

To appoint other users as Page Admins, take the following steps:

  1. Select the “Edit Page” option when you are viewing the Page you currently administer.
  2. Scroll down to the list of current admins on the bottom right column and click “Add.”
  3. Choose the names of any people from your Friend List that you would like to add as Admins. If the individual you wish to invite to admin your Page is not presently a member of Facebook, simply type their email address in the “Add Admins via Email” field. They can then register for the site and will be able to accept the admin request as soon as they join Facebook.
  4. Click the “Add Admins” button.

The friends you select will be able to help you manage your Page. Every Admin can manage the Page from their own Facebook account using the Page Manager application.
